I go to the new year sale every year, and went to LUMINE and LUMINE Est in Shinjuku this year
It was about 11am on 2nd or 3rd of January. The store was quite crowded even it was just after their opening time. Long wait for fitting rooms and cashiers in popular shops, the some queues were stretched out of shops. Inside the store was also crowded as if it was a women's battle field.
Because of that kind of atmosphere, I happened to buy items I like a little as I was so worried if someone else would pick them up. I regret later on but convinced myself 'well, they were cheap, I can get my money's worth!'
For some clothes, I keep wearing and they become my favourite even as a result of impulse buying, or sometimes I regret not to have bought it before they were all gone. It's so difficult to judge.
The best way is to go to some shops for research, see what to buy before the sale season, but I can't be bothered, so I just try to image some items beforehand.
I sometimes think twice and change my mind while waiting for trying them on, so it's an idea to grab the items you might like then queue up for a fitting room to allow you to think.
I tend to buy expensive items such as coats and shoes at sale. I bought a coat for less than 10,000yen which original price was nearly 20,000yen.
Also I go for bulk buy with vests and camisole tops as they are very useful. Together with plain colours like Black, White and Beige, I bought colourful ones as well because they were cheap. The price on skirt I decided not to buy after long consideration came down so I bought it, I felt lucky. A floral dress I bought was a bit young for me so I don't wear it much...
